Down to the valley on runners
It’s not always easy to plan an activity that the whole family will enjoy. How about a toboggan race on the four-kilometre natural toboggan run from the Gampen mountain station? The winding route leads back down to the valley in around 15 minutes, encompassing over 500 metres in elevation difference. Our tip: the toboggan run is also open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 19.00 to 21.30 hrs There are also perfectly groomed toboggan runs in Pettneu (3 km), Schnann (200 m, floodlit), Flirsch (1 km, floodlit) and Strengen (1 km).

Long trails in unspoilt nature
No matter whether classic or skating, leisurely or time-tested – the region around St. Anton am Arlberg is a popular destination for cross-country skiers. Along the 40-kilometre-long network of trails, the landscape reveals its most beautiful characteristics. You’ll feel like you’re dreaming with your eyes wide open as you glide through snow-covered forests, across meadows and past rushing rivers. The longest cross-country ski trail in the area measures some 22 kilometres, along the banks of Rosanna River to Flirsch and back. Those in search of romantic encounters of nature, should follow the trail to Verwalltal Valley. The moderately difficult route of 10 kilometres in length is considered one of the most beautiful cross-country trails in Austria, while cross-country skiing can be enjoyed at no less than 1,800 metres above sea level in St. Christoph am Arlberg.
Footprints in the snow
Breathe in the cool mountain air and enjoy the innate sounds of the Alps, albeit gently muted by the snow-covered forests: nature fans can explore the region at their own pace on winter and snowshoe hikes. Some of the most popular destinations include the Wagner Hut in Verwalltal Valley, the Panorama Trail on Mount Galzig, or the Almfrieden Guesthouse in Pettneu am Arlberg – where a stop for refreshments comes highly recommended. There are no less than 17 routes around St. Anton am Arlberg waiting to be explored on foot or with snowshoes. Trained guides are also happy to accompany you through the dreamy winter landscape as part of a guided snowshoe hike – with an inherent training element thrown in for good measure.

Ready for something different?
Whether relaxing in an indoor pool, or on a sled tour with huskies: St. Anton am Arlberg offers an incredibly varied adventure programme – both indoors and outdoors. Regular yoga sessions for beginners and advanced protagonists take place in the Karl Schranz finish stadium. Guests will find large leisure and wellness facilities with a swimming pool, fitness room, saunas and steam bath at Arlberg WellCom extern. A romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow-covered mountain world also comes highly recommended. Those who prefer a little more action might want to sample the Arlberg Winter Via Ferrata climbing trail. The route starts at an altitude of over 2,600 metres and leads along the rock for 850 metres to the Rossfallscharte. A paragliding flight also promises a somewhat different perspective, when those with a good head for heights can glide down to the valley in tandem betwixt snow-covered peaks.
