Significant remnants from past centuries, myths of witches and magicians, buildings steeped in history: interesting facts about the St. Anton am Arlberg region can not only be found in books, but experienced on site at best in the natural surroundings.
Ancient Views of Flirsch
What was village life like hundreds of years ago? The answers can be found in the form of impressive buildings and relics dating back to the 14th century along the circular hike from the community centre over Mount Flirscher Berg. The journey through time leads in the Wolfen district to the Antonius Chapel, whose artistic baroque altar alone is worth a visit. Other highlights include the plate cross on Römerweg (Roman Road), the first school building on Protzenegg or the factory owner's villa, which was the centre of the Tyrolean textile industry during the 19th century.

Flirsch Chapel Circuit
Starting from the parish church, the path leads to three interesting chapels from the 18th and 19th centuries. The magnificent view over Flirsch and the Stanzertal is always impressive. Running alongside Mühlbach Stream, the path leads to the Lourdes Grotto, a listed building, and the Lourdes Chapel directly above it. The walk through the districts of Schopf and Riedlen to get to the Antonius Chapel. Those interested can hike from there to the Grube district to the “Herz-Jesu” Sacred Hearth Chapel, before heading back to the parish church.

Schnann Faith & History
Less than 400 inhabitants, but plenty of stories from the past: the hamlet of Schnann is best explored via the themed trail. At 13 stations, life-size figures made of Corten steel with large books in their hands tell about the origin and settlement of the village, about the salvation and misfortune of the Schnanner Creek or of the Swabian children. Why Schnann was also called “the golden city” in 1946 can be found out in a treasure hunt east of the St. Michael Chapel.

Rosanna Gorge & Stiegenegg Chapel
Accompanied by the rushing waters of Rosanna River, the tour starts off in a westerly direction from St. Anton along a gently ascending hiking trail. Secured walkways through the Rosanna Gorge allow visitors to enjoy the thrilling experience of watching the raging waters. Shortly after the U-turn in the Verwall Trail, the path climbs a little to the Stiegenegg Chapel, which sits enthroned atop a rocky cliff. Commemorative plaques can be found here, so-called “Marteln”, in memory of the many people who tragically lost their lives here while working chopping trees or falling rocks in Verwall.

Verwall Legend Trail
Is it true, that many moons ago a sorcerer lived in Schann who had made a pact with the devil? And why did a wife once drag a ghost over a mountain ridge to the house of the priest in a basket on her back? Four “Stations of Legends” in the car-free Verwall Valley allow visitors to playfully immerse themselves in the myths and legends of the region. Hunting the various stations down makes the hike through this pristine valley feel like it takes no time at all. There is also plenty of opportunity to sit down on one of the many benches and enjoy a relaxing break in-between.
