Second Stage of the Tour of Austria
Commences in St. Anton am Arlberg
After a hiatus of three years, the esteemed Tour of Austria is set to make a return. Approximately three weeks prior to our cycling event, the "Arlberg Giro" extern, 19 local and international teams, each comprising of seven cyclists, are scheduled to partake in the Tour of Austria extern, hosted in St. Anton am Arlberg.
The 2nd stage of the tour, a challenging route from St. Anton am Arlberg to Innsbruck, is slated to begin on July 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., with the kick-off set in front of St. Anton am Arlberg tourist office.
The grueling track spanning 158.8 kilometers and a vertiginous 1,803 meters in altitude is designed to test the limits of the participants. Additionally, the cyclists are also expected to compete in three sprint classifications and two mountain classifications, adding to the intensity of the race. These significant details, along with many others, suggest that the revival of the Tour of Austria is likely to reaffirm its status as the centerpiece of road cycling in Austria.

Teams
The roster is now set, with 19 teams, each comprising seven riders. Notable names have begun to emerge, including some world-class climbers.
Among the prominent entrants, the British team Ineos extern is represented by a top-tier cyclist, the Frenchman Pavel Sivakov. His track record is impressive; last year, he emerged victorious in the challenging Tour of Burgos, outperforming Joao Almeida and Miguel Angel Lopez. In addition, he claimed double victories in 2019 with the Tour of the Alps and Tour of Poland! Sivakov will receive support from one of the brightest young talents in the field, Leo Hayter. Hayter clinched the U23 edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2021, and last year, he bagged a bronze at the U23 time trial championship and also claimed victory at the 'Baby Giro'.
UAE with top climbers
UAE Team Emirates extern is presenting a powerhouse lineup for the Tour of Austria. Alongside Pascal Ackermann, whose participation had already been confirmed, the Swiss Marc Hirschi, winner of the 2020 Fleche Wallone and a stage victor at the Tour de France, is also set to compete in Austria. This is a return to a venue of great success for Hirschi, as he claimed his first significant international victory with the U23 world title at the 2018 World Cycling Championships in Innsbruck.
Joining them are Davide Formolo, a stage winner at the Giro d'Italia and Dauphine Libere, the climbing specialist George Bennett, winner of the Tour of Catalonia and 2020's Tour of Lombardy runner-up, and Alessandro Covi, who had an impressive run last year when he conquered the King's stage of the Giro d'Italia on the Fedaia Pass!
